One two-month cruise through the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the cruise liner on a distant island.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a break. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back after some time after the personnel realised the woman was not present.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her body the following day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the tragedy, together with investigators and the medical examiner.
